Egg Freezing

Stop the Biological Clock. Freeze Your Eggs.

Zouves Fertility Center has been a pioneer in egg freezing for more than six years.

A woman is born with all of the eggs she will ever have. Starting in puberty and ending in menopause, a woman will recruit anywhere between 10-30 eggs each month. As a woman ages, the number of eggs decrease and the egg’s DNA begins to degrade, leading to an overall decline in egg quality.

Thanks to the cutting edge technology of vitrification, or flash freezing, women now have the choice of freezing eggs in their healthiest, most fertile years for a variety of reasons:

  • Building a career
  • Haven’t found the right partner
  • Unsure of future plans to have a family
  • Prior to undergoing cancer treatments

Perfected in Japan by Dr. Masashige Kuwayama (2000) of the Kato Ladies Clinic, vitrification literally means “changing into glass,” and differs significantly from slow cooling methodologies of the past. Eggs are frozen so quickly that the egg instantly changes into a chemical glass that is maintained at ultra low temperatures.

With the previous slow freeze method of freezing eggs, only 6% of those frozen would survive the freezing and thawing process. Today with vitrification, over 90% of eggs survive.

How long is the egg freezing process?

It’s a common misperception that egg freezing requires months of treatment. In fact, it requires about one to two weeks of injections, culminating with a 20-minute procedure done under IV sedation. Most women continue to work through this time, and require just a day or two of downtime after the retrieval.
