Preimplantation Genetic Testing-Aneuploidy (PGT-A) has opened up the possibility of identifying normal embryos as well as the gender of these embryos.
Using that knowledge, gender preference embryos can be selected to:
- Avoid sex-linked genetic disease
- Achieve a more balanced representation of both genders within a family
Technology only allows us to identify normal embryos and their gender, not the ability to influence the proportion of male or female embryos in a particular cohort. This ability may become possible with the FDA approval of Microsort (currently pending). Microsort technology is designed to isolate particular sperm that carry either the Y or X-chromosome aiding to select the proportion of male or female embryos in any particular IVF fertilization based on gender preference.
