Dr. Zouves has been involved in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) since it came to North America. He has helped thousands of families across the world realize their dreams. After studying medicine at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Dr. Zouves completed residencies and fellowships in OB/GYN and General Surgery at Royal Colleges in London, England. In 1981, he moved to Canada, where he became Canadian Board Certified in OB/GYN. He completed his training in Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Zouves served as Medical Director for seven years at the University of British Columbia’s IVF program situated in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility division prior to moving to San Francisco in 1992 to practice stateside.
In 1999, Dr. Zouves opened Zouves Fertility Center where he and team take a progressive approach to fertility, combing the latest technological advancements with holistic modalities to aid in achieving individual and family goals.
In addition to authoring Expecting Miracles, Dr. Zouves has written extensively in medical publications including Fertility and Sterility, American Journal of Reproductive Immunology and Microbiology, SAMJ, Journal of IVF-ET, Journal of Reproductive Medicine
Dr. Barnes began his career in the field of reproductive science in the 1970s after getting his Masters from the University of Missouri and his Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He continued his research at biotech firms in the 1980s. In 1993, he trained at the prestigious Monash IVF, Melbourne, Australia and was on the team that produced one of the first healthy children from an immature human oocyte matured in vitro. Dr. Barnes joined Zouves Fertility Center as the Laboratory Director in 2000.
As one of the early pioneers in the field, Dr. Barnes continues to innovate and institute cutting edge technologies that improve pregnancy outcomes, such as new embryo culture protocols, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), assisted hatching, egg and embryo vitrification and Preimplantation Genetic Testing-Aneuploidy (PGT-A). As the founder of IVF Labs, L.L.C., he provides consulting services and laboratory direction to IVF centers across the country and has trained embryologists at the top laboratories throughout the United States, including those at ZFC.
